The Blood Angels are a Space Marine Chapter of the First Founding, descended from the Primarch Sanguinius, slain by Horus, and recruited from Baal and its moons. The dying memories of Sanguinius are encoded in the Chapter's gene-seed as a flaw. A Blood Angel overcome by the Black Rage is thrown back into the Primarch's final battle; such warriors form the Death Company, which fights in black armour under the Chapter's Chaplains, seeking death in battle. Survivors risk the Red Thirst, a hunger for blood. The Sanguinary Priests keep the preserved blood of Sanguinius in the Red Grail.
